"The Overlap with Gary Neville" is an engaging podcast which showcases the anecdotes of individuals within the football industry. This podcast has many attributes I aim to display in the final product of my visual podcast. Each episode displays to us interesting conversations had between Neville and his guest, which generally delve into their career, childhood and personal stories. Moreover, to give viewers a wider range of perspectives, topics such as family and personal growth are also covered. Not only does Neville provide us with large quantities of information about his guest, we also get to learn more about the football industry and business itself, which shines a light on the more serious parts of the sport. In my opinion, Neville is a host I aspire to be like one day when it comes to his knowledge of players, the game and his wit. Casting aside the big names Neville is enabled to provide to us within his episodes, the captivating stories we are told is what continues to draw in the audience as they may often relate to many, which creates a sense of reliability and intrigue. Neville's presenting style can vary, generally splitting straight down the middle. One example is his serious and empathetic style, which we mainly see in one-to-one interviews. Whereas when with his fellow pundits and friends Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright, Jill Scott and Roy Keane are involved, a much more upbeat and light approach is visible within his presenting style. The success of "The Overlap" is incredibly mind-blowing, with over 64 million views, 1 billion impressions and 473,000 subscribers. The podcast can be streamed on a variety of platforms including Sky, Spotify and YouTube. Considering the success of this podcast, Neville also brought to light a sequel named "The Overlap on Tour", where he is joined by his previously listed friends to visit meaningful locations to each of them. Heading back to the notes on Neville's presenting style, I would prefer to aim for more of an uplifting and comedic tone throughout my podcast, however if a serious topic is brought to light, i would adjust this style to appear with empathy and consideration.

"Chloe vs the World" stands out as an engaging podcast that mirrors certain elements I aspire to incorporate into "The Pink Pitch Pod". In these series', Chloe Burrows directs lively conversations with an array of well-known reality TV and social media stars. Each episode begins with a brief 5 to 10 minute introduction about the guest's background and accomplishments before transitioning into the podcast's focal point: interactive games—an aspect I particularly admire. Games like 'fit the word in the conversation,' 'guess the object,' and 'the lies game' which tend to provide very comedic content, serve as the main aspect of the podcast, offering glimpses into the personalities of both the guest and Chloe. I aim to have these segments in my podcast, recognising their potential to forge connections with listeners and guests alike, whilst also educating viewers and listeners on the backstories of the guest. Beyond the content, I'm drawn to the aesthetic of "Chloe vs the World." The podcast's feminine and girly visual style relates to my style, which delves further into personality and interests beyond sports, which challenges outdated stereotypes of women within the sports industry. One admiration I have for "Chloe vs The World" is how it caters to a specific target audience which from what I can foresee, 16-25 year old show biz fans, purely because of the relation between the guests and the games. One thing I would avoid in my podcast is the lack of conversation in regards to sport, this is primarily due to the overall genre of 'Chloe vs The World' having a showbiz concentrated genre.
Overall, I would predominantly aim to morph the two podcasting styles into one. From 'The Overlap with Gary Neville' I would subtract the football context and topics as well as similar characteristics when it comes to the guests. However, from 'Chloe vs The World' I would perform the layout of her episodes including the introduction, the games as well as aiming for a similar aesthetic. I believe this is a unique contrast of ideas which will target a new audience.

Editing Techniques

In 'The Overlap with Gary Neville' and ‘The Overlap on Tour’, the visual editing stands out to me when considering its authenticity and ingenuity. The three main shots displayed throughout the episodes are tracking shots, close-up shots, and medium shots. For example, when Neville and Beckham walk together, the camera leads them. This emphasises the realism within the episodes as there are no harsh transitions due to a seamlessly flowing conversation held between the host and the guest. The jingle for the episodes is extremely basic and in my opinion targets more of a male audience with its use of twangy music and its bold red and blue colour scheme. This would aid my overall product to meeting its potential because it will highlight the reactions and emotions of the guests and myself through the close-up and medium shots. However I would prefer to create I diverse jingle that will attract a variety of audiences.
In 'Chloe vs The World', similar to 'The Overlap with Gary Neville', there's an aim to maintain a natural flow of conversation, which displays the charismatic atmosphere set by Chloe and her guests. However, considering the podcast's focus on games and competitions, the editing style differs slightly. When participants score points or win, the editing provided result updates, which keeps them aware of the swift game dynamics. This editing approach ensures that despite the fast-paced and exciting nature of the podcast, viewers remain connected and informed about the ongoing competitions. By mastering a balance between maintaining conversational authenticity and incorporating visually stimulating elements, 'Chloe vs The World' delivers an engaging listening and viewing experience, capturing the feeling of both entertainment and competition. I aim to include a record of points in my final to maintain an informed audience.
In addition, the overall aim for the jingle is something that familiarises with the aesthetic and niche but moreover showcases what the episode is about. To carry this out, I will ensure to take some BTS shots when filming each episode which I will edit in to the final jingle edit. Below I have left a rough draft of what I would like the jingle to appear like. I used Canva and CapCut to edit this draft. I think the jingle will hugely impact the final product of my FMP because it is the first thing viewers will see so it must cater to their desires for something eye-catching.
Historical Research

The first ever podcast was created in 2003 after Adam Curry and Dave Winer generated a platform named 'Ipodder' which allowed people to download podcasts on to their iPod. The term 'podcast' came from a mixture of 'iPod' and 'broadcast' which subsequently adds up considering its creation. The popularity of podcast began to rise around 2017 (see image below) and are currently 10 years later causing battles between mainstream podcasters for who takes the number 1 spot. Similarly, video podcasts also were created in the early 2000's, however the popularity of these did not rise till 2021, when Spotify began providing video content.
The podcast timeline to the left provides us with information in regards to the notable events of podcasts including when the first one was created, when and how they increased popularity and how they are performing within the present time.
This will impact my project positively because I am guaranteed an audience on a product which is in such high demand, it guarantees that a high standard of the podcast can be produced as their are similar examples already out there. Also a benefit is the large quantity of streaming platforms now available, this is beneficial for the final product as it will make it more accessible. One disadvantage of the current popularity of podcasting is the increased amount of competition, due to the demand of different genres.

From the bar chart to the left we can gather that podcast popularity has increased rapidly since 2017, by approximately 19.2 million listeners. The reason behind the rise of listeners could be down to Covid-19 which is the period where numbers had the largest difference between years. This is impactful towards my podcast because it could signify that people already have podcasts they listen to which could have been discovered during the Covid period. On the contrary, it is beneficial because of the demand for new, unique upcoming podcasts for listeners/viewers to engage with once they have possibly finished with their previous favourite. This highlights that I can target the audience I want due to the wants and needs of viewers/listeners and the gap within the market.
Budgeting

Equipment & Resources
- X3 cameras, one for a wide shot and one for a medium shot. (provided in studio)-I will use two cameras when filming as this will allow me to receive alternative angles. I will do 2 medium shots (one of me, one of the guest) and a wide shot which will include the full filming set. The overall effect this will have on the finished product is it will allow the audience to view in more detail the reactions and emotions of the individual in the medium shot.
- X2 rode mics (one of my own, one from Darrell, depending on the amount of guests)-I will use Rode mics because they allow the set to appear much neater and cleaner when using a wide shot angle. The overall effect this will have on the audience is it will provide them with clear audio when watching/listening to the podcast.
- Decorations-I will decorate the studio to match the pink and girly aesthetic I have planned. The overall impact this will have on the final product is it will familiarise the audience with my aesthetic, so when they see it advertised on social media etc, they will know it is The Pink Pitch Pod.
- Mini fridge- I will incorporate a mini fridge into the set as this will allow me to provide beverages for the guests. This will benefit my final product because it will provide possible collaboration opportunities with beverage companies who are aiming for more exposure.
- Editing software- I will use Adobe Premiere Pro which is provided to us by the college. This will benefit my final product because it has advanced editing aspects that other apps may lack. Also I have been well educated on how to use Premiere Pro which will increase the potential for a smooth and successful final edit.
Content Of Product
My podcast revolves around engaging guests in lively conversations while incorporating entertaining mini games to unveil intriguing information and the true personality of the guest in a fresh and modern manner. Each episode kicks off with a brief introduction of myself and the guest, highlighting their achievements, stories and some form of comedic tale they may withhold. To foster a relaxed atmosphere and showcase the unique personalities of our guests, I've made note of a selection of interactive games. Among these are "Question Block Jenga," "Fit the Word In" and the "Lies Game". As well as other games I have made note of, these games not only resonate with the football but also reveal captivating insights about our guests. I would like my podcast to include these specific topics and timeframes throughout because it will captivate the attention of the audience and hold it, purely because lengthy quantities of content generally do not align well with a younger audience as the attention spam is very little.
Skills and Abilities
To craft a successful podcast, having hard and soft skills is crucial for delivering an entertaining and educational final product. Some examples of hard skills that I will need throughout production are editing skills in the selected platform, mine is Adobe Premiere Pro. My planning of topics, themes, and guest appearances is imperative to hold the interest of the audience and keep the narrative flowing throughout each episode. Moreover, having online marketing strategies is vital for promoting the visual podcast across the different social media pages I have created in preparation for this. Basic design skills are needed for creating eye-catching podcast graphics to entice potential viewers. On the soft skills front, communication skills are important for engaging with audiences, guests, and the production team, ensuring a smooth filming process and a an enjoyable work environment both on and off camera. Networking is key for generating connections with potential guests, people that can offer advice and also brand that may want to collaborate. A creative mindset helps to set episodes apart, maintaining a unique aspect and excitement for the audience. Lastly, organisation and time management is crucial for posting consistency, as irregular schedules may cause an audience to disengage which will affect the growth of the podcast. Mastering this blend of hard and soft skills is key to realizing the full potential of my final product.
Types of Planning
To begin with, content planning is vital for me to ensure that my episodes and the ideas behind them run smoothly and successfully. Some examples of content planning include brainstorming ideas and creating targets. Brainstorming ideas will benefit my final product as it will encourage unique and organic content which will create an engaging experience for viewers. Creating targets will positively impact my overall product and also the production process because it will allow me to keep note of the specific things I may have completed and what I have left to achieve. Another form of planning which I will need to perform is organising who my guests will be. Some things I must consider when attempting to find a guest is how long it will take them to travel to the studio, their parking if they travel by car, that they're abled also their schedule, which is why time-management is vital throughout this project. Overall ensuring that everything on the day of filming is prepared and ready to have a smooth sailing production process.
Locations
For my visual podcast, I've secured the Barnsley College TV studio as the ideal location. I aim to transform the studio temporarily to match the aesthetic I have in mind for my podcast. The shelves within will be decorated with ornaments that relate to my aesthetical goals, such as a pink LED football light and miniature trophies for guest winners. A mini fridge stocked with refreshing beverages will be provided for the guests, I will find out what their favourite drinks are. Adding to the ambiance, pink blankets will cover the sofa and chairs, which will complement the chosen colour scheme. Behind the sofa, the TV screen will feature 'The Pink Pitch Pod' logo, reinforcing the podcast's branding. This attention to detail ensures that not only the content but also the setting reflects the personality of me and the podcast. This location is beneficial because I have full access to it and the equipment within, as well as the ability to construct it the way I would prefer it. However, a drawback of this location it the large glass window and door leading to the corridor, purely because it may lead to students who are walking past become disruptive my making gestures and distracting the attention of the guest which may add additional anxiety to a guest without experience in filming.
Market Research

When it comes to how my audience discover podcasts, it typically boils down to either social media, Spotify or recommended podcasts on YouTube. These responses have benefitted the craft of my podcast because it allows me to recognise and take action upon where I should and will place my podcast in order to enhance its audience discovery. Overall this will allow me to not only generate more viewers/listeners, but could also will help me gain a social media audience too.

In addition to how people discover new podcasts, it has come to my attention through this particular question that 60% are either likely or very likely to engage with podcast content on social media. This displays to me that I must use social media to advertise my podcast as the majority of responses clearly use social media and state they would most likely engage with this specific topic of content. This will benefit my FMP product because it will increase my viewers/listeners and the engagement of the podcast.

When it comes to the genre of the podcast, it is evident that people who have responded prefer sport and comedic content. This is good because the responses I gained were specifically provided by my target audience which were found through my sports journalism social media account. Also it benefits me because it aligns with my original plan of sports content and entertainment through competitive gameplay.

Through the questionnaire I found that my target audience are most likely to listen to podcasts later on in the day. This could be due to the fact my audience may be younger meaning through the day they could possibly be at school or college and may not drive so they do not have the travel time to listen to podcasts.

Through this vote I discovered that 68% of my audience tend to watch podcasts. This could be due to the visual aspects of the podcasts, including the aesthetics and also the presenter and guests alongside their reactions. This emphasises to me the importance

From these opinion based responses, it provides me with detail about what I should aim to include within each episodes. I can gather that the majority of my target audiences request realistic and down to earth content as well as educational. Moreover the use of social media promotion is highly valued by my target audience which I believe is due to their age and their lack of ability to consume content in large time quantities.
Audience Research

Through analysing the demographics and psychographics of my audience, it helped me gain knowledge on what type of guests I must get on the podcast, what titles and thumbnails will attract the audience, what topics I must cover within the episodes and where the podcast should be available for streaming. This is important because a lack of matching up these concepts with the audience can lead to a lack of viewers and engagement.
FMP Research Chapter Review
Throughout the development of my FMP so far, I believe the research has positively impacted the growth of my product when it comes to preparation for the production period. When looking back on previous projects my research seemed to contain a smaller amount of research and had less detail. Now it has developed into providing me with research that will aid my final product. At the beginning of my research
